Contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to start planning right away! Learn what is the most important thing to do when you get engaged, and the following steps once you’re ready to begin!
This December officially marks 1 year of being engaged, and while we celebrated with a special dinner at the very restaurant that John proposed at, we really have been celebrating the entire time! While people will wonder, and ask about all things wedding details right after the question is popped, we knew that there really is no rush into locking down a date just weeks after being engaged. While some do it that way, we knew enjoying this time is just as important as the big day it all leads up to!
If there is one thing that I would say I’ve learned in the last year of being engaged, it is the simple fact to take it slow and don’t rush into the planning right when you get engaged! Because stress is inevitable when planning the first big party as a married couple, take time to enjoy the sweet cards that will be in your mailbox, the small engagement parties, opening a bottle of champagne just because, and of course just being engaged. After all, you have your whole life to be married, and while it is naturally easy to jump right into planning, try to take your time! Host a wonderful engagement party, take some great photographs, go out to a nice dinner often and just marvel at the idea of being engaged!
When it comes time to think about venues, flowers and sending Save The Date cards, I highly recommend researching and finding a perfect addition to your wedding planning…which of course means a planner to help you design and execute the big day! John and I decided to look for our venue before hiring our wonderful planner, Claudia Hoste and we couldn’t be happier with all the help she has already done for us! With a number of quality vendor recommendations so far such as photographers, florists, DJs and one of the biggest vendors of all, caterers, Claudia has been able to help us understand the priorities, budget tracking and general organization that to me would be a challenge to do without. So, once you have enjoyed your time being engaged, my recommendation would to either look at venues first, or hire a planner to help you sift through all the venue option out there are definitely the top two options I would recommend to any recently engaged couple!
If you are engaged currently, what are you most looking forward to at your wedding? Have you had experience with wedding planners?
