Back in our parents age, traditional wedding cakes where a no brainer. Fabric inspired frosting, layers on layers and intricate details came with the wedding territory, but at a hefty price tag. Nowadays, there are so many more alternatives to wedding cakes that won’t break the bank and end up being tossed when your wedding guests are just too full to have a piece, or would rather find themselves on the dance floor.
For the hip, trendy couple comes the age of the donut cake. It’s cute, simple and easy for those who are looking to save some of their wedding budget. Adding an element of surprise for your wedding guests is always a good idea, and this would sure get the guests talking!
Easy one of the most adaptable alternatives to a giant wedding cake is a dessert bar! It allows guests to choose exactly they want to indulge in, because (apparently) not everyone loves a vanilla cake. Tartlets, cupcakes and mini pies are just a few great way to incorporate a variety of sweets without loosing elegance. Adding a small wedding cake in the center of the dessert bar would ensure that you still have the traditional aspect there, too!
I can’t get enough of these barely frosted but equally as beautiful style cakes. They bring on a more rustic vibe, but can fit into a wide variety of wedding themes such as garden, country and anything outdoors. When these cakes are garnished with fresh fruit, flowers and powdered sugar, less really can be more!
Gourmet S’mores Bar
Not only are s’mores a crowd please for kids and adults alike, they are also a great way to allow the guests to mingle and make something together! Bonus points if there are gourmet marshmallows and special toppings like fresh fruit, bacon or caramel!
