At the base of the Sawtooth National Forest in the heart of Idaho nestled along trees, rivers and the big old mountains is the small ski resort town known as Sun Valley. After visiting a several times over the past five years, I found there is something magical about wandering through the tall trees and making your own path by yourself in the midst of never-ending snowfall. It’s always quite liberating to be in a place unfamiliar, which is a desire may of us aim to fulfill through travel and exploring. If you had the chance, would you wander with a plan unset while taking in all the beauty that surrounds you?
Downtown Ketchum Guide
The small area within Giacobbi Square encompasses fabulous restaurants including mountain cooking at The Kneadery, a quaint movie theater with fresh popcorn, mountain shops and visit one of the only Starbucks that serves wine and champagne among couches, high beam wood ceilings and of course, a burning fire in an airy, dreamy atmosphere.
Pop over to Sun Valley Wine Co for a romantic gourmet lunch after hitting the mountain.
Visit the Sun Valley classic, Grumpy’s for a burger and a large “schooner” of beer in a casual, ski town bar environment.
Dinner at The Pioneer Saloon is an absolute must, but be prepared to wait at least an hour for a table. This Ketchum hot spot does not accept reservations, but sipping a glass of red wine among natural wood interior, mounted game, artifacts and loved ones is half the fun.
Take a walk along the close to frozen creek in Warm Springs and marvel over the breathtaking homes of this area complete with smoking chimneys, stone textures and large exterior windows.
Take a Sleigh Ride through the heart of Sun Valley to experience the surrounding in an exciting, non-traditional way. For an extra special experience, take the ride all the way to Trail Cabin Creek for dinner.
