Quiet! Free! Well Maintained! Where To Find Serenity In San Francisco at this hidden area right in the heart of Golden Gate Park.
San Francisco living never ceases to surprise me with its upbeat parades, plethora of new eateries, and endless options of activities to do. With that said, living here is not for the faint of heart, and though not everyone will admit it, the perks of living here also has its flaws and it certainly changes you, the way you go about daily life and the way you view the world. For me, I love living in the Sunset District which is quaint but still has restaurants and bars, that allows us to park the car without restrictions, and to the close proximity of the outdoorsy activities such as Stow Lake, Lands End, Ocean Beach, Golden Gate Park and so many others. Living in the city for quite some time definitely motivates you to never stop exploring, to see what else lies in the 7×7 city, and to share my finds with everyone! While I’ve always kept one of my favorite parks under the radar to maintain its serenity, I figured it’s time to put the San Francisco Botanical Garden on your (already) existing list of what to do in San Francisco…especially when the city life begins to wear you down (because it can) and you just need to be surrounded by nature!
Adjacent to the Japanese Tea Gardens located in Golden Gate Park off 9th Avenue and Lincoln Drive, this 55 acre botanical garden is modest from the outside, but completely transports you to another world on the inside. The space is divided up into different areas depending on where the plants originated from. You can visit the Chilean garden, Asian cloud forest, a large succulent garden, Australian plants and a California native garden, just to name a few. With secret paths into a redwood grove leading to a meadow of small flowers, the space is a place to wander and get lost in. Unlike almost everything in San Francisco, the garden is never crowded, is so well maintained and is free for all San Francisco residents! If you go, I suggest bringing picnic supplies, a camera and plenty of time to recharge without leaving the city limits!
