A weekend away from the city life means a weekend of relaxation. Though I love living in San Francisco and can’t imagine living anywhere else currently, there are times the hustle and bustle of working downtown force you to want to just unplug and get away from it all. Thankfully, living in the Bay Area means access to some of the worlds most sought after landscapes and destinations. From wine country to seaside adventures, Northern California has a little piece of everything and specializes in wine country luxury. This time around, it was time for John and I to explore Sonoma’s Russian River Valley and specifically the stunning Farmhouse Inn and Spa.
After a long drive up to Sonoma, we finally arrived at our home away from home, the luxurious and ever so accommodating Farmhouse Inn. As we walked towards check in, twinkle lights and bright stars had us giddy to find out just how wonderful our room would be! Upon check in, we were greeted with our choice of wine and access to Farmhouse Inn’s very own “Bath Bar” equip with scrubs, salts, bubble bath and handmade olive oil bar soaps for us to take to our room during our stay. On top of it all, homemade marshmallows, graham crackers and dark chocolate were provided throughout our stay to make s’mores around the firepit whenever we pleased!
We couldn’t think of a better way to start a day of wine tasting than with an awesome breakfast! After enjoying a long bubble bath in our room, we headed down to the Michelin-stared restaurant for a delicious three course breakfast that started (and ended) with fresh squeezed orange juice mimosas and coffee on repeat.
Our first winery visit of the trip took place at stunning Lambert Bridge Winery. Not only are the grounds beautiful, but the interior of the tasting room is absolutely stunning, cozy and well designed which is something I always appreciate greatly!
Upon arrival, Erika of Lambert Bridge greeted us so cheerfully and instantly made us feel welcomed! We headed back into the private cellar room lit by candles and soft mood lighting to start a truly one of a kind experience. Accompanied with a delicious cheese pairing, we sipped through the Bordeaux Flight and simply couldn’t get enough. The wines were among the best I’ve tasted and the staff made our experience at Lambert Bridge truly special.
Luminate Skin Boutique
After a few tastings during our first day on Sonoma, we headed to Downtown Healdsburg for a massage and facial to pamper ourselves and truly embrace relaxation mode.
The moment we got arrived at Luminate Skin Boutique, our experience was so enjoyable! The owner of Luminate, Melissa was kind enough to pour us chilled bubbly as we got prepared for our services. After getting into full relaxation mode, my masseuse Candy of Wellness By Candy preformed a full body massage that instantly made the aches and pains from working on a computer week after week melt away. John was lucky enough to receive a signature facial by Melissa and the results were wonderful. While we were at Luminate, it felt like we were old-time friends with Candy and Melissa thanks to their cheerful attitudes and welcoming hospitality. We will for sure be back!
Iron Horse Vineyards
On the second day of our trip, we began our tasting at the stunning Iron Horse Vineyards with their sparkling wine flight. The drive to the vineyard was truly something special. As we drove up on a one lane road into the parking area, the view instantly grabbed our attention and we couldn’t wait to explore more of the property.
Tall palm trees and rolling grape line hills surrounded the outside bar where the tastings took place. It was a different (in a good way) experience tasting outside and thanks to the many heat lamps, we were more than comfortable despite the chilly day. The staff at Iron Horse is as knowledgable and friendly as ever and we learned so much about sparkling wine. During the spring months, Iron Horse hosts Sunday events with oysters on the half shell to accompany the sparkling wine. You can bet we’ll be back soon to experience the good vibes and bubbly during the upcoming spring and summer months!
Approximately 15 minutes from Iron Horse Vineyards in the small town of Guerneville that has recently been featured on blogs around the Bay Area. It was nice to finally make it to the small town for a good lunch before we headed onward to Armstrong Redwoods, located just a few minutes from downtown.
After lunch, a quick ride to Armstrong Redwoods is a must if you have some extra time. Roaming around the tall redwoods in this national forest will make you appreciate being out of the city and surrounded by nature’s most pristine beauty. There are several different hikes you can take within the redwoods, so be sure to pack your hiking shoes if you’re looking to spend multiple hours here!
All and all, a quaint weekend in the Russian River Valley is the perfect time to disconnect from it all and enjoy some quality time with your loved ones. Farmhouse Inn allowed us to do all of that and more. Our absolutely stunning King Deluxe room had the best amenities we’ve ever had at a hotel- ever! A large jetted bath tub and the personal steam room in our shower accompanied with plush robes allowed us to truly relax. The seating area, private deck, large King sized bed and fireplace in the room made this weekend one to remember.
Though we didn’t experience any treatments at the Farmhouse Inn Spa this time around, I took a peak inside the spa and it looked just wonderful! The hot tub on property was just what we needed after a day of wine tasting and the outside firepits made the property that much more magical.
