When you envision what a home should be like, what do you imagine? Do you think of small accents, open concepts or how your house looked growing up? What about the smells, the furniture and memories you make in that space? For us, our home decor and layout is always changing and evolving. While keeping in mind our goal of creating a relaxing home environment, we are drawn to simple elements that achieve and maintain a streamlined look in our small, city apartment.
A few months back, John and I did a purge of all things unnecessary and began to work on our apartment a little more each day. Since then, I’ve been so inspired by minimalist home decor because truly less can be more when it’s done right. Although we don’t yet have vaulted ceilings and hard wood floors (yet!), I’ve learned it’s all about what you do with your space, not necessarily the space itself. Working downtown in an urban city, there’s nothing like coming home after the day to a calming, clean and clutter free home. Though our apartment is small, I absolutely love when everything works together to create a really peaceful space to be in. Like everything in life, change and additions can be good and the home is a great place to start! My advice? Simple, elegant and quality pieces really can make a surprising impact on the overall atmosphere you may be hoping to achieve in your own home!
