All the must pack items to bring with you to Florida plus a travel guide and insider location recommendations for Panama City Beach and surrounding areas.
Tucked way up along the emerald and turquoise waters of the Gulf of Mexico in the sunshine state, Panama City Beach offers vast opportunities for both a relaxing and exciting vacation…and we are currently en route as I speak to the area! With it’s 27 miles of bright white sand beaches, two state parks and dozens of waterfront restaurants serving up local seafood, Panama City Beach is a one stop getaway to nightly sunsets and spontaneous southern thunderstorms that seemingly come out of nowhere as lighting bolts light up the sky.
During the spring months, PCB is a popular destination for spring breakers and concerts on the beach, so plan your trip accordingly. With an average yearly temperature of 72 degrees, you can guarantee that the weather will be fitting for the beach, but don’t forget about the humidity during the warmer times of the year. Visit Pier Park for a more touristy feel and brightly colored buildings, drive the scenic 30A highway through Seaside, Florida, play a round of golf, visit the lush conservation park, embrace the vibrant orange sun as it dips into the wavy waters to create a golden glow, or simply relax on the warm, white sand to the sound of soft waves along the pier. Needless to say, a vacation from the cold and urban life of San Francisco is just what the doctor ordered!
The town of Seaside offers a centralized town square with shops, a brewery, ice cream parlors and a huge variety of restaurants (many of which provide an excellent view of the water). This sleepier style beach town is a great place to rent a condo or even a house for an active but quiet getaway. Ride beach cruisers here, visit the Eden Garden, play a round of gold, rent a stand up paddle board to roam the warm waters or even take a stroll in the lush greenery of this area. If you’re feeling like good ol’ fashioned sun bathing, well yes…they have that too! Don’t miss the Saturday morning farmers markets or Bud & Alley’s on the beach.
With several trips to Florida under my belt, I’ve had my fair share of moments caught in the rain, running around in a bikini on the beach and even feeling somewhat chilly at night! While I love to put together packing guides for many different regions, here are my recommendations for items to pack on your next trip to Florida, or to any beach town for that matter!
My southern travels here several times before lead me to the extravagant and pastel colored scenic highway wrapping along the Gulf of Mexico through Seaside, Florida located between stunning Panama City Beach and Destin. From enormous mansions home to several celebrities, to rows of airstream food trucks, ocean bluffs and gorgeous blue and green hued water, this drive could be comparable to California’s Highway One. Subtract the roaring cliffs and substitute long stretches of bright white sand and you’ve got quite the highway, scenery and pure relaxation bliss…after all, don’t forget why you traveled to the sunshine state in the first place!
