Weekend getaways are my jive, but you probably already know that! Getting out of San Francisco to calmer places that allow me to rejuvenate from spending hours inside and too far away from getting vitamin D on my skin. From trips to Point Reyes and Sonoma to further away places like Santa Barbara and Big Sur, I have determined the key ways to prepare for weekend getaways in the best way I know how!
Get Chores Done Sooner Rather Than Later
Laundry piling up but you’re really not feelin’ up to it? Ya, me too- but do it anyways! The last thing you want to do is either be stuck departing with that favorite shirt you didn’t get around to washing or you simply can’t start packing because everything is dirty! Do you laundry in the beginning of the week so you can start conceptualizing styles and outfits for the events on your trip. This will help keep stress down and the excitement!
Spray tanning is another one of my favorite things to do before weekend trips. Though I don’t do it each and every weekend trip, there’s something to say for going into the weekend looking golden and feeling your best! It’s no secret that the practically year round fog here in San Francisco doesn’t bronze the skin quite like suburban towns of the Bay Area do. Spray tanning to the rescue for immediate color!
When I choose to get a spray tan, I always visit the salon the day/night before I leave to ensure I get to show off my tan as long as possible! Luckily for those living in San Francisco, there is one location in particular that I absolutely adore that just so happens to make me feel like a bronze goddess. Located in the Marina district, Dermaplus Skin Boutique is a clean, crisp and perfectly designed space that not only offers spray tanning, but a whole array of skin treatments including wonderful facials services, but more on that below!
Before my most recent getaway, I visited Dermaplus for a personalized spray tan and Andrea, the owner allowed me to choose what shade of darkness I desired my skin to be during throughout the service. For good measure, I always opt for the darkest shade because it will slowly start to fade 4 or so days into your trip. I was so pleased to learn that Dermaplus uses the highest organic ingredients for these treatments and the color could not have turned out better! Along with treatments, it’s also a great place to pick up goodies such as mineral makeup from their very own Make Up Bar along with a plethora of natural, handmade products to ensure the skin is hydrated to make that spray tan lasts as long as possible!
Research Off The Beaten Path Activities
This is one of my absolute favorite things to do before a weekend trip! I don’t like the idea of missing out on something spectacular simply because I didn’t do my homework first. How do I find these hidden gems, you might wonder? I spend hours searching Instagram by exploring hashtags of the location and of course browsing the web! If you pin point your destination on Google maps, you can almost always discover what is along the way and around the area. This is one way I have found some killer hidden gems that may not have made their way onto Instagram (yet) and really let you plan around the most fun pit stops on these weekend trips.
Nails, Beauty Supplies & Facials
If you’re into this sort of thing, get your nails done a few days before you depart instead of waiting until the last minute. It will be one less thing to worry about and if you get gel manicures, worries about your manicure chipping will be at ease. Don’t forget to stock up on all the essentials that you may need such as dry shampoo, back up blush, razors and more to avoid any trips to the drug or beauty store during your trip!
Facials are one treatment that I don’t get to indulge in as often as I like’d to, but LOVE to have them done before a trip! While I do splurge two to three times a year on facials, my facial experiences at Dermaplus are always stellar. Andrea is so sweet, beyond understanding and really cares about her client’s skincare needs. I love how she explains the products she uses during her treatments including the ingredients and the benefits the products do for my skin. Andrea and her staff also personally blend the products for you to ensure the face masks, mini-massages, soothing exfoliation, and the warming hand treatment exceed your expectations and show results! A visit to Dermaplus is always a treat and I can say with confidence that their facials are the best I have ever had- glowing skin and all!
