The sweet taste of summer is on the horizon and I know I’m not the only one totally excited! The warmer months call for outdoor fun, dinner and wine al fresco, and a chance to tap into your creativity with DIY’s fit for the season. With the windows open and the sunshine warming my apartment during the recent one day heat wave in the city, I was inspired to create a mini-apartment style herb garden! Although most people who live in San Francisco have space limitations, growing potted herbs (and plants for that matter) is totally do-able and quite simple! With summer just a few short months away, I figured there’s no time like the present to test my green thumb at potted herbs to use in my summer recipes.
The act of potting herb seeds with soil and water is pretty straight forward and anyone can easily create and care for their own herb garden. The fun part is getting creative with the styling of the pots that will hold your plants! Depending on the type of herb you are choose, be sure to quickly read the back of the seed packet for any special requirements to help you understand what the plant needs to survive. Before mixing the soil, seeds and water together and potting the herb, a really fun step awaits! The creative minds behind Brit + Co suggest using a gold paint pen to decorate plain pots. What a great idea, right?! Another really wonderful way to add a pop of color would be to create geometric shapes and lines using a washi tape too!
