Living in an apartment or home that needs some upgrades? Check out these quick and easy ways to bring life, organization and style into your living spaces.
For the majority of those living in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond, the reality of purchasing a house is a tough one to face. The unbelievably high real-estate market these days makes it much more of a challenge than our parents generation when it comes time to place roots in a house. Despite that reality for us, it doesn’t mean you must suffer through for a lack of better work, ugly rental conditions. While there if some boundaries on what you can do as renter, there are creative ways to make your home more beautiful that won’t have you remodeling rooms and breakdown walls, even though the desire to do so is definitely there. With these 5 tips and tricks, you can start living better- all in a weekends work!
If painting wall isn’t in the cards, there’s no better time than now to join the wallpaper game! If you are thinking of your grandma’s house with peeling floral decals, think again! Modern sites such as West Elm, Crate & Barrel and Anthropologie are changing the game. A project like this one takes about 3 hours depending on how much you are adding, and will make a remarkable difference.
Light Switch Covers
On the same note of standard items in rentals, light switches are often an overlooked place for improvement. These are something that you look at each morning, and each night when you adjust the lights to your preference, so why wouldn’t you upgrade them? I purchased these beautiful ones from Amazon, and they instantly made our walls have a designer feel and blend in well with the decor on our walls.
Another great way to make the space feel more truly you is to replace the pulls on cabinets and drawers. If you choose ones that you love, it will instantly make a kitchen or bathroom pop. Be sure you save the originals so you can switch them back out when it comes time to move.
You know those standard metal blinds almost every apartment comes with by default? Ya, we have them too. Thankfully, with the help of a curtain rod (favorite one here) and some bright white, linen curtains you’ll be in good shape. This instant makeover can make up to one hour, and they even make blackout curtains in white if you’re not interested in the sun peeking into your home in the early hours.
Don’t underestimate the power on contact paper and faux back splashes, especially in your kitchen. I used this marble contact paper to upgrade a few low shelves that were in our apartment and the addition made the space look defined and modern.
There are also many other quick upgrades that can make your style of living more comfortable during the rental period of your life. Simple things like replacing the standard shower head for a rainfall style shower head, adding rugs in unexpected places and maintaining a cohesive design will make your space appear bigger, better and brighter! Don’t underestimate the power of mirrors, live plants, simplistic design elements and the little details that you surround you in your home.
