Autumn is here which means we’re on the brink of social gatherings, work parties and a whole lot of holidays! Events during this time mean seeing loved ones for the first time in a long time, being introducing to new people and more often than not, stress. For these reasons, it’s no wonder why so many of us want to take extra care of our skin to ensure it’s looking it’s best during these celebrations. With the transition into a new season, what worked well for your skin during the hot, humid summer months probably won’t translate well into fall because the skin reacts differently during these cold, dry months. Those with oily skin may be looking forward to the dry fall air and those with combination or dry skin should be sure to increase hydration and moisturizer into their routine. As someone who always makes skincare a priority, I’ve finally found what works for my skin and I couldn’t be more relieved. From facials to steam rooms and toners and exfoliants- I’m sharing steps that will help you achieve flawless skin for fall.
Exfoliate & Moisturize
With new skin cells being produced constantly, don’t let dry or dead ones keep you from glowing! Exfoliate 3-4 times a week for healthy looking skin by using a Mia2 Clarisonic and incorporating Dr. Brant Microdermabrasion or GlamGlow Hydrating Cleanser for a gentle, yet effective exfoliant. Implementing these product into your routine will leave you with skin you’ll be proud of. Don’t forget to moisturize after exfoliation, too!
Use Safe Products
While this suggestion is not exclusive to autumn, safe products are key to healthy skin. You check ingredients in the food that you eat, but how often do you look at the ones on your skincare and makeup products? Key ingredients to avoid are Talc, Parabens, “Fragrance”, Sulfates and Hydroquinone. I will say it can be hard to find products formulated without these ingredients, but with a little research it is worth it to avoid irritants and bad for you products.
Don’t Forget Your Lips
We’ve all had those blistering, cold days stranded somehow without chapstick. The result? Dry, chapped lips. Keep multiples spots in your home and workplace stocked with lip balms. Easiest place to keep one? I vote nightstand to easily apply before bedtime.
Treat yourself to a facial every now and then for an instant skin upgrade! I have always loved getting facials and I knew it was the perfect time to get one as the seasons begin to change. I recently visited The Sanctuary Spa at The Bay Club San Francisco and could not have been more delighted with my experience and results during a Epicuren Advanced Enzyme Facial with an Advanced Peel. Since it has been a while since my last facial, adding on a little time for an extra peel only felt right. As I walked into the spa, I was instantly greeted with a plush robe and headed upstairs to take a seat with a glass of cold blueberry water to hydrate before the treatment. A few minutes pasted by when I was greeted by my facialist, who got me settled into a room with an extra relaxing atmosphere. Before, during and after my treatment, the facialist was understanding and informative when it came to skin, how to take care of it and my specific needs. While I was certainly red in the face right as the service came to a close, my skin is glowing and feeling as fresh as ever- just in time for fall! I’m all about treating yourself, so be sure to check out full list of spa services here to book an appointment for yourself!
At Home Masks
Admittedly, monthly facials are not in the budget right now (San Francisco living!), so between services it’s a great idea to save yourself money without sacrificing glowing skin with at home facials weekly. Sunday nights are my go to evenings to prep for the week, which includes a face mask among laundry, hair mask and food prep. I highly suggest Irish Moor Mud Black Mask and boscia Luminizing Black Mask. Once you get into your own routine- you (and your skin) will be golden!
We all know the advantages of drinking water to keep skin looking it’s best, but its even more crucial during the dry autumn and winter months. It’s especially important if you work full time in an office because the chance of your skin drying out is high in that environment, so be sure to keep that water bottle full! Keep motivation up by adding a fancy new water bottle into your collection such as Swell, BKR or the Thermos bottle that actually tracks how much water you drink daily!
Sweat It Out
Exercise is another great way to keep your skin happy! Not only does the process of sweating release toxins, you’ll naturally be drinking tons of water and choosing to eat healthy which are proven to help your completion. Don’t forget to take off your makeup before working out to avoid blemishes from trapped skin!
If you have access to a steam room, use this opportunity to let the steam open up your pores. By applying a hydrating lotion immediately following your shower, you will lock in all the moister needed for healthy skin. Drink lots of water before and after to ensure all the toxins are flushed out. Bonus points by investing in an at home humidifier which is extremely beneficial in hydrating the skin while you sleep.
Don’t let the stress of holiday planning and celebrations show on your skin! If you haven’t tried a spa service from Bay Club, then there is no better time to get #BayClubHappy during their Healthy Aging Month! If you’re interested in learning more about good for you skincare and refreshing for fall, I highly suggest booking a facial at one of Bay Clubs location!
