My 2017 highlight reel showcases just a tiny glimpse into what the past 12 months brought. The year was filled with living each day with so much love, to finding our dream wedding venue in the very place we fell in love, hosting our engagement party, saying ‘yes’ to the dress, several weekend getaways and to nurturing both new and old friendships. We closed out the year with family in Florida over a week and a half, and headed back to San Francisco just in time to celebrate the start of 2018 with our favorite sushi and champagne at home! It was a quiet little celebration, but we felt it was only right to begin our wedding year the best way we know how!
2017 began with a last-minute surprise trip to Sun Valley, Idaho to meet John to spend our first holiday together as engaged couple! The weeks following, we rowed along Stow Lake and had our afternoon captured for our first set of engagement photographs. The month also held a weekend in Sonoma, with one of the best getaways of our life at Farmhouse Inn!
My birthday month wasn’t short of celebrations, and I wouldn’t have it any other way! From participating in Sonoma’s Barrel Tasting weekend, to creating the perfect St. Patrick’s Day Bar Cart and looking at wedding venues and trying on the first wedding dress ever, this month was one of the best ones!
To top the months prior, we took a trip down to Santa Barbara where we first met to view 7 wedding venues. As the story goes, the very first venue we looked at, we knew we were in love. While we could have easily canceled the tours at the remaining 6, we viewed them all and called that first venue the day we got back to San Francisco to draw up the contracts. In between the tours were visits to our favorite restaurants, happy hours and soaking in the Central Coast sunshine!
Ah, yes the month when spring rolls around in the city and the weather heats up! May consisted of so many fun events, but most importantly was those spent at Lake Berryessa and days by the pool. Sunshine and water are always the best combination!
The sixth month of the year was the year of countless events. From bottomless brunch, to Giant’s games, a day at the horse races and taking engagement photographs, it was a month of jam-packed weekends!
I will always remember the month of July as when the wedding planning started to pick up! By then, we had signed our wedding venue contract, and begun the search for our wedding planner, and were planning our official engagement party!
In just these 4 weeks, John and I had our friends and family shower us with love at our engagement party (and went through 20 bottles of champagne), myself, my bridesmaids and my mom visited bridal salons, I said ‘yes’ to the dress, and celebrated my mom’s birthday as she visited from Florida.
The beginning of fall treated us to record-breaking temperatures, finally crossing off Angel Island on the bucket list, to meeting with a Bay Area photographer for some coastal photographs and to truly enjoy all the goodness the changing of the season brings.
October was without a doubt the lowest of 2017. When I woke up to the news of my cousin passing away in the Las Vegas shooting on the first of the month, I didn’t know what to say, what to think, or what to expect of the world. While each and every tragedy affects us differently, you really don’t know what it’s like until you’re directly affected by such a senseless tragedy. The month continued with more bad news of the catastrophic wildfires in my most beloved area of the state, wine county. With all that was going on and more, John and I headed south to Palm Springs to escape, and I got the opportunity to nurture my soul with a week of exploration, and pure relaxation. Turns out, we’re pretty good at retirement life! While the month was hard, there was one weekend in particular were we got to set up our registries, enjoy back to back brunch and design our Save The Date cards. Now that, my friends, was amazing.
In the 11th month of year, I was blessed to soak in fall with a picnic among the tall redwoods, to new experiences, to celebrating our 7 year anniversary and to send out our Save The Date cards. It was a busy one, but a great one nonetheless.
This past month was just as busy as one would expect, but dang there is something so magical about San Francisco at Christmas! With holiday parties, decorations and gift shopping to planning a surprise birthday party and flying across the country to visit my mom and sister in Florida, it was a duzy…but how else are you supposed to close out the year other than with a bang?!
We all set goals for the New Year, and mine is to continue to be present, to let go of things out of my control, to maintain the blog and to inspire despite my busy schedule and to be grateful day in and day out. To continue to live more simply, and to embark on more experiences and less on material items. So, here’s to a new year, achieving goals, my bachelorette party with my closest friends, fresh stamps in my passport, to a new place to call home, to a new last name and best of all, to getting to call my best friend my husband!
I hope you all had a wonderful New Year’s celebration, and are ready to set new goals for 2018!
